ANTIQUE SHAN GLASS EAR PLUG
Northern Myanmar (Burma) – Hill Tribe Adornment
Authentic single glass ear plug originating from Shan State in northern Myanmar, traditionally worn by Shan and related hill-tribe communities. Dated to the late 19th to early 20th century, this piece belongs to the early modern period of regional body adornment.
Formed from solid glass, the plug features a smooth, polished surface with vivid coloration and a functional tubular to slightly conical profile, designed for stretched earlobes. The craftsmanship reflects practical use combined with aesthetic simplicity characteristic of tribal glasswork.
Notably, the surface shows no signs of burial iridescence or pitting, distinguishing it from earlier Pyu-period glass artifacts. The condition and material integrity are consistent with later, non-archaeological tribal production.
