YAO (IU MIEN) SILVER EARRINGS WITH SPIRAL DISC ORNAMENT
Northern Laos / Vietnam – Early to Mid-20th Century Tribal Jewelry
Authentic pair of Yao (Iu Mien) tribal earrings from the northern Laos–Vietnam border region also warn by the Lao Nyi tribe, dating to the early to mid-20th century. These lightweight earrings feature a clean, elongated form terminating in a flat spiral disc—one of the most recognizable motifs in Yao jewelry.
The spiral element carries symbolic associations with cycles, continuity, and protection, while the restrained design reflects a minimalist approach within traditional hill-tribe adornment. Subtle tool marks and surface irregularities attest to hand-forged production.
Crafted in a mixed silver alloy with tested medium silver content, consistent with regional silversmithing practices. The surface displays a soft natural patina developed through age and wear, reinforcing authenticity.
