YAO (IU MIEN) SILVER EARRINGS WITH SPIRAL BRANCH MOTIF
Northern Laos – Early to Mid-20th Century Tribal Jewelry
Rare and culturally significant pair of Yao (Iu Mien) tribal earrings from northern Laos (used by Hmong & Yao as well), dating to the early to mid-20th century. These expressive pieces feature an organic “spiral branch” form—an extension of the classic spiral motif—rendered in a more dynamic, branching composition.
The design symbolizes growth, continuity, and life force, themes central to highland tribal ornamentation. Each earring is entirely hand-forged, showing slight asymmetry and surface texture that confirm traditional craftsmanship rather than mechanical production.
Crafted in high-silver-content metal (tested), consistent with quality Yao silversmithing. The surface carries a well-developed natural patina from long-term wear, enhancing depth and authenticity.
