YAO (IU MIEN) SILVER EARRINGS WITH TRIPLE SPIRAL BRANCH
Northern Laos – Mid-20th Century Hand-Forged Tribal Jewelry

Authentic pair of Yao (Iu Mien) tribal earrings from northern Laos and adjacent border regions (widely used by Hmong & Lahu tribes as well), dating to the mid-20th century. These earrings showcase a distinctive triple spiral “branch” terminal—an advanced variation of the classic spiral motif associated with continuity, growth, and ancestral connection in Yao culture.

Each piece is hand-forged from high-silver-content metal (tested) and constructed with a thick, hand-hammered wire body forming a looped S-hook. A wrapped neck transitions into the spiral cluster, demonstrating traditional fabrication techniques and refined proportional balance.

The visible tool marks, slight asymmetry, and organic flow confirm handmade production using traditional methods. Such earrings were worn both in daily life and during ceremonial occasions, where silver functioned as a marker of status and a form of spiritual protection.
