YAO (IU MIEN) SILVER EARRINGS WITH SPIRAL BRANCH MOTIF
Northern Thailand / Laos – Early to Mid-20th Century Tribal Jewelry

Authentic and culturally significant pair of Yao (Iu Mien) tribal earrings from the Northern Thailand–Laos region, dating to the early–mid 20th century. This form is also encountered among related highland groups, reflecting shared ornamental traditions across the region.

The earrings feature a distinctive triple spiral branch motif, an expressive variation of the classic spiral design. This branching composition symbolizes continuity, growth, and life force—core themes in Southeast Asian hill-tribe adornment. The dynamic, organic structure gives the pair both movement and visual balance.

Each piece is entirely hand-forged, showing subtle asymmetry and surface variation that confirm traditional craftsmanship rather than mechanical production.

Crafted in high-silver-content metal (tested), consistent with quality Yao silversmithing. The surface displays a well-developed natural patina from long-term wear, enhancing depth, authenticity, and collector appeal.
