PADAUNG (KAYAN) SILVER “SEED POD” EARRINGS – BURMA (MYANMAR)
Contemporary Traditional Craft
A fine pair of silver “seed pod” earrings from the Padaung (Kayan) people of Burma (Myanmar). This design, often referred to as “seed pod” or “seed pouch,” reflects enduring highland silversmith traditions, where organic forms symbolize fertility, continuity, and natural abundance.
Each earring features a curved hoop terminating in a hollow pod-shaped element, characteristic of this style. While rooted in older tribal aesthetics, this pair is a modern production made traditionally, maintaining the visual language and craftsmanship associated with regional adornment.
Crafted in high-silver-content metal (tested), the earrings are lightweight and well-balanced. The surface shows a soft, even patina consistent with recently made but traditionally finished silverwork.
