VINTAGE MIAO SILVER DANGLING EARRINGS – SOUTHWEST CHINA
Early to Mid-20th Century
This authentic pair of antique silver earrings is attributed to the Miao people of Southwest China. Handcrafted during the early to mid-20th century, the earrings display a refined example of traditional highland silversmithing, emphasizing movement, texture, and visual density.
Each earring features a domed repoussé top element with an abstract, clustered motif, likely floral in interpretation rather than zoomorphic. Suspended below is a dense arrangement of multiple hollow-form dangling elements, individually linked to create fluid movement and subtle sound when worn—a characteristic feature of Miao silver adornment.
The dangling system consists of fine looped chains terminating in small geometric drops, forming a layered, kinetic composition designed to enhance presence through motion and light reflection.
Crafted in medium-silver-content alloy (tested), the earrings retain a natural aged patina consistent with traditional use and hand fabrication techniques.
