PAIR OF VINTAGE YAO (MIEN / MUSUR) HIGH-SILVER DANGLING EARRINGS – NORTHERN THAILAND / BURMA
PAIR OF VINTAGE YAO (MIEN / MUSUR) HIGH-SILVER DANGLING EARRINGS – NORTHERN THAILAND / BURMA
A rare pair of traditional Yao (Mien, also referred to regionally as Musur) earrings from the Northern Thailand–Burma region, featuring hand-forged hook forms with articulated dangling elements.
Each earring is composed of multiple suspended components, including coiled wire elements, geometric plates, and small bell-shaped pendants. This type of construction reflects established highland silversmithing techniques, where movement, sound, and layered ornamentation play a central role in the visual impact of the piece.
Crafted from tested high-silver-content alloy, the earrings exhibit a soft, subdued luster typical of high-purity silver. Subtle surface irregularities and tool marks are consistent with hand fabrication, reinforcing their authenticity and traditional manufacture.
Condition is very good for age: fully intact, structurally sound, and wearable. The surface shows a natural patina with light wear consistent with age and use.
An excellent and increasingly scarce example of Yao silverwork, combining technical craftsmanship with dynamic, multi-element design. Well suited for collectors of Southeast Asian tribal jewelry, ethnographic collections, or curated personal wear.
Sold as a pair.
